Of Monastic Wisdom to New Gastronomy Portuguese

In the heart of Lisbon, next to the Church of São Domingos, Capítulo Restaurante & Bar, a space where eight centuries of history meet contemporary gastronomy. Located in the imposing Sala Capitular – Chapter Room, one of the most noble and social areas of the convent, this was the place where Dominican monks met to read the order’s chapter, for discussions and for decisions that marked the destiny of their community.

The space preserves the grandeur of its original architecture, featuring the robust columns that defied the earthquakes of 1531 and 1755, the polychromatic marbles and tiles from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries.

Next door, the open-air Cloister, restored by the Renaissance architect Nicolaus de Frias, is one of Lisbon’s rare interior refuges that open to the sky. Once upon a time, it was the convent’s apothecary, where aromatic herbs and citrus trees were grown to produce natural medicines, supplying monastic life.

The Renaissance of an Icon, where history sits at the Table

Today, this space is reborn as an exclusive setting for lunches, dinners and signature cocktails, with an outdoor fireplace that invites relaxed moments in a modern and sophisticated environment.

In Capítulo – Restaurant & Bar, every detail reflects the balance between tradition and innovation. A Market-to-Table concept comes to life in dishes inspired by Portuguese flavors, in a fusion between product, technique and creativity.
